Skinhead Girls, Cute much?

After watching This is England on Film4 a couple of nights ago, I have been seriously inspired by Skinhead Girls, and their utter cuteness.

More than anything it was the hair. They shaved their heads and managed to hold onto their feminity with short bangs.
Im going to be heading to the barbers pretty shortly I think.

I also love how the girls style was taken from the Mods but adding their own working class look to it. Fred Perry polo's, Ben Sherman shirts and high waisted skirts. Or the punk aspects, of the 70's/80's revival, with the bleached jeans, turned up at the bottom. As was with so many fashions that have been around, Doc Martens had their place in it all.
Also happy to see that this look is still so influential in Hipsters and Indie kids. It must have been a great and hugely popular look for it to still have an effect today. Pete Doherty is a prime example. I just hope it doesn't hit too mainstream and get spoilt.

More than anything, Skinheads were about making a statement. They were proud to be working class. Despite the neo-Nazi offshoots and other scary additions. The original skins were good guys. How could they possibly be the rascists that took over, when their very inspiration was from the Jamaican Rude Boys.
Skinhead was an exciting youth subculture!
